FAQs - Gaijin Houses FAQ

What is the procedure for staying at a Gaijin House?

Most guest houses would like you to call or email them first.

They will want to know:

  • Name, nationality, sex, age
  • Contact number or email.
  • When you wish to stay.
  • How long your stay will be.
  • (If there are rooms available.) You will be asked to come see them if you are in Japan.
  • Some places hold a short interview just to make sure you won't be trouble.
  • If all is well you will need to sign a contract.
  • Most places charge a deposit fee ranging from 10,000-30,000yen. (This is almost always returned to you, unless you have severely damaged something.)
  • You will also have to pay the first months rent upfront.

Foreigners will need a valid passport and/or an Alien Registration Card.
Japanese require identification also.
